Q |
I
already have a connection to the internet using my
phone line so why should I switch to broadband?
|
A |
Chances are that if you are using a phone connection
you only have one line into your house so when you are
connected your phone line is engaged and nobody can use
the phone to make or receive other calls - with broadband
it doesn't need to use your phone line so it is available
to make and receive phone calls all the time. |
Q |
Do
I have to 'dial up' each time I want to go online?
|
A |
No - with broadband you are permanatly connected which
means that as soon as your PC is switched on you can 'surf
the net' and send and receive e-mails |
Q |
Does
that mean I am being charged for every minute I am
connected in the same way as a phone line?
|
A |
No.
There is a single monthly fee that is comparible with
BT's Broadband rate. |
Q
|
If
this is Satellite broadband does it means I have
to have a satellite attached to my house to get it?
|
A
|
No.
There is one centrally located satellite in the village
which will supply all subscribers. To get Broadband all
you need is a small unobtrusive arial attached to you
TV aerial pole |
Q
|
Will
it cost me anything to have it insalled?
|
A
|
We
are trying to get the installation costs covered by a
government grant - getting broadband to rural areas that
are not covered by BT is a high priority as the benefits
to individual using the internet are immense |
Q
|
At
the moment when somebody sends me an e-mail with
an attachment it takes a long time to download -
would this be faster with broadband?
|
A
|
The
general rule of thumb with broadband is that it is upto
10 times faster than normal phone line connection but
can be even faster depending on the conditions at the
time |

How
much does it cost? |
