Compton Hall Amateur Dramatic Society

CHADs was formed in 1996 when our present Chairman, Christine Lawrence, came to live in Compton Bassett and was persuaded to re-kindle the Drama Group, which had staged a couple of productions ten or more years previously.

Some of the participants from those earlier productions joined the new group and additional members were recruited, so that the first production could be staged in May 1996.

Productions are staged in May and November/December each year and are varied – comedy, tragedy, thrillers, revues are amongst the portfolio of productions staged. The group likes to test themselves by trying out “something new” wherever possible; this can often be challenging for the group and audiences alike.

Rehearsals generally commence in early February for the Spring production and in early September for the Winter production and are held on Monday and Thursday evenings for the first ten or so weeks; this increases over the last two weeks, leading up to the production dates.

Members come and go and we have a hard core of six or so members that have been with the group since its inception, or thereabouts.

CHADs is a sub-committee of the Compton Bassett Village Hall Management Committee and all proceeds go to the improvement of the Village Hall (The Benson Hall). The group has raised almost £20,000 since its inception, for the Village Hall.

We welcome new members, both young and old, from Compton Bassett village and the surrounding area. If you want to know more, either come along to a rehearsal, or phone Fran Creasey (Secretary) on 01249 814539 or Christine Lawrence (Chairman) on 01249 760691.
